Marc On Sunset Blvd

Marc is a model from the prestigious LA Models Agency in Hollywood--he was broke and offered to pose for me (and to shoot my ideas) in exchange for some prints for his portfolio. I agreed, not realizing how much fun he would be to work with. Sunrise comes really, really early in Hollywood (as does sunset) because it sits in a valley--so I forced this poor surfer guy to get up very, very early in the morning, so that we would get the best possible sunlight. He picked me up in a beat-to-sh*t convertible and drove me around Sunset Blvd with the top down and with the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing on his cheap and tin-y little car AM radio--it was the best time I had the entire time I was in California! We stopped and shot along this wall that had been erected around some wonderful estate and, it is sad to see, but the entryway was bricked up, apparently for security reasons. Still, I went nuts for the architecture and kept saying, "It should be nude! You should be naked!" He was willing, but I wasn't--we were on Sunset f**king Blvd for god sakes and, even though it was so early that NOBODY was around, I still knew in my heart of hearts that we would be dragged off to jail for indecent exposure the minute we did it. By the way, much, much later, when I was back in Michigan and working in the darkroom, I noticed that the tattoo on his pelvis matched the architectural detail in the arch...queue TWILIGHT ZONE music, OK?
